Why "instead of defending institutions"? That advice is from the same national consultants who got us into this mess by failing to stand up for government for 50 years as Reagan and conservatives tore it down.

In addition to doing everything you recommend, we should absolutely be making the case for our democratic institutions, while also expressing that those institutions need to step up and do better for the American people.

Yeah, despite how I worded it, I totally agree here. My sentence was too short for what I was trying to say. I should have said, "Instead of making this specific scenario about defending the DOJ, I think it is more potent to focus on Trump's overall corruption."

That more accurately describes the nuance I was trying to get at. In general, yes we should defend our institutions and talk about reforming them where appropriate. I feel that in this specific scenario, it will be more impactful to focus on Trump's corruption.
